International Colloquium on Marcel Duchamp
Fundación Proa has designed the first Latin America International Colloquium on Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968), related to the exhibition Marcel Duchamp: a work that is not a work “of art” in Buenos Aires.
The Colloquium is coordinated by Paul B. Franklin, Editor in Chief of Étant donné Marcel Duchamp –Annual magazine of the Association pour l'Étude de Marcel Duchamp (Association for the study of Marcel Duchamp)– and will takes place next November 20 and 21, with the presence of outstanding contemporary “Duchampian” intellectuals; it will be an unprecedented event in Buenos Aires.
Thus, the Colloquium dedicated to Duchamp in Buenos Aires becomes a platform for discussion and research about contemporary art and the influence of Marcel Duchamps’s work, not only in the field of the visual arts, but also in music, literature, cinema, theater and other performing arts. Outstanding local and international researchers –specialized in the study of the artist’s life and work– will discuss, open debates, and contribute with their knowledge.
Étant donné (www.marcel-duchamp.com) is a project encouraged by Jacqueline Matisse Monnier, and among its contributors is Elena Filipovic, curator ofthe exhibition Marcel Duchamp: a work that is not a work “of art” in Buenos Aires and São Paulo. The magazine’s purpose is to offer a space for unpublished investigations about the artist and his work. Its goal is to keep alive the research, renovation of sources, and above all, sustain and reanimate the debate of the inherent problems of modern and contemporary art initiated with Marcel Duchamp.
