First Geometric Art Biennale

The Primera Bienal Internacional de Arte Geométrico (First International Geometric Art Biennale), organised by the artist and publicist Lipa Burd, will be carried out a stone throw from the corner of Ayolas and Pedro de Mendoza Avenue, where the Museo de Arte Construido will soon be located.

“This Biennale was a great challenge. I received the support of the curator Díaz Hermelo and the photographer Pedro Roth, who were an important driving force for the execution of the Biennale. Besides, it is the first event linked to the Museo del Arte Construido and it is extremely gratifying to receive the positive feedback from the art galleries. In general, they have very few geometric artists, and in many cases they went in search of them in order to be able to participate. Another participant is the Centre d´Art Géométrique MADI-ORION from Paris, France, which was highly impressed by the current relevance that the geometric art has in Argentina” mentioned Burd.

The Bienal de Arte Geométrico takes place in Siglo XXI – Cambalache, Ayolas 441, which is a spacious site in the La Boca neighbourhood recycled to host exhibitions and organise artistic events, and a future annexe to the Museum. Especially inaugurated for the Biennale, “Siglo XXI – Cambalache, together with Fundación Proa and the Museo del Arte Construido, will be part of this important cultural axis present in the La Boca neighbourhood”, said Burd.

This Primera Bienal de Arte Geométrico is an antecedent of the Museo de Arte Construido, which will be inaugurated in the La Boca neighbourhood in 2008. Both undertakings aim to prioritise the Geometric Art in Argentina and broadcast it internationally.

Tribute to Sol LeWitt at the Proa stand

Proa was invited to participate in this first Bienal de Arte Geométrico, devoting the space of its stand to pay tribute to the master Sol LeWitt, recently deceased. The exhibit displays a series of images and video which document the execution of the Wall Drawings especially designed in 2001 by the American artist for the rooms of the Fundación.
