04.02.14 - Artists' Film International

Artists' Film International

In its fifth edition, Artists' Film International, organized by Whitechapel Gallery, London, presents a panorama of contemporary video. The artists with their works in video or film question the vague boundary between the disciplines of film and video.

Artists' Film International opens February 1st with a selection of four works presented by various institutions. During the 2014 season, the proposals for the 15 host institutions will be presented at various stages.

In this first selection the following works were grouped:

Murray Hewitt, The Downfall of Light, 2011
Featured by City Gallery, Wellington, New Zealand.

Alix Pearlstein, The Drawing Lesson, 2012
Presented by Ballroom Marfa, Texas, USA.

Morgan Wong, Plus-Minus-Zero, 2010
Presented by Para / Site, Hong Kong, China.

Kaia Hugin, Five Parts – a Motholic Mobble (Part 5), 2011
Presented by KINOKINO Centre for Art and Film, Sandnes, Norway.

Presented in various exhibition formats, the complete set causes the viewer confusion and alienation. These effects are due to the alteration of moments of everyday life caused by each of the films. Details that we no longer look such as the drop of water in a waterfall or walking in the counterclockwise direction are presented by artists to recover and draw our attention to the simple facts of daily life.

Proa selected the work of Ana Gallardo Don Raúl, where body, dance and collective communion are documented in a ball performed on the occasion of the 29th Biennale de Sao Paulo in 2010. The celebration and skill of Don Raúl subjugates for the perfection and harmony of his popular dance.
