Artist Tomás Espina presents his book Pira, an overview of his works produced between 2001 and 2010. The edition box also includes Alcaebza ed surgenda, a publication that reproduces 31 drawings amongst the extensive series created on 2009. “Ignición” and “Retratos sociales”, two of Espina’s unpublished videos, will also be shown during the presentation.
Pira – a trilingual Edition (in Spanish, English and French) of 148 pages–, Espina’ s first publication, is a collection of his complete works, which the artist has produced during the last decade, together with a series of texts that deal with the concepts that the artist develops in his works.
The publication includes texts by historian Roberto Amigo and Alma Ruiz, curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Los Angeles (MOCA); as well as an interview by writer/journalist Claudio Iglesias.
The book Alcaebza ed surgenda which is included in this Edition reproduces part of the series of charcoal drawings that Espina showed at the Desenho das Ideias exhibition at the 7th Mercosur Biennial (Porto Alegre, 2009). These works were produced during the nights between February and October, 2009; after his well-known works on burnt gunpowder and installations such as “(Habitación quemada) La furia de Leucade” which received the Petrobras prize at the 2009 edition of ArteBA.
Tomás Espina (1975) lives and works in Córdoba and Buenos Aires. He began his artistic career at the Prilidiano Pueyrredón Fine Art School. He took part in Pablo Siquier’ s Art Clinic and Marina de Caro’ s workshops. He participated in several collective and solo exhibitions such as Petrobras Prize of Visual Arts (2009).
