arteBA'09: Proa sponsors the Press Room

In what has already become a tradition, Fundación Proa is present in this new edition of arteBA. For the fourth consecutive year, Proa sponsors the Press Room and summons an artist to execute an art project in the space where the members of the press would work during the Fair.

This time, Proa invited artist Gachi Hasper, who presents a project based on the graphic identity of newspapers, magazines and electronic art media. According to her words, she wants to think about mass media and show how art news is being published.

“The idea is to create mural compositions different among themselves, revealing the function of the room. I play with the signs and the text ARTE-PRENSA / ART-PRESS. Lots of words and texts loose sense and become a visual, plastic element: a pattern”, explains Gachi Hasper, who usually works with digitally modified pictures.

The art project presented by Fundación Proa in the Press Room has something special: the artist must create the work for a dynamic room, meeting point for journalists from all over the world. “In this case, the art project seems to be a mirror, and they look themselves in that mirror”, says Hasper.

Designed according to the needs of the journalists and art critics that cover the Contemporary Art Fair of Buenos Aires, the Press Room has two areas: a functional working place, with phone and fax services, and computers with internet access and wi-fi; and a smaller area, where journalists can schedule private interviews in a more comfortable way.

In the past, the artists summoned by Fundación Proa to carry out their proposals were Alejandro Puente, Marina De Caro, Sergio Avello and Alfred Fellinger. This year, Fundación Proa is present once again in this major cultural event, where more than 800 Latin American artists show their artworks, and contemporary art galleries from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain and United States participate.
