Marcel Duchamp: A work that is not a work “of art” covers the life and work of Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) through photographs, letters, texts and an important selection of essays by remarkable researchers.
The texts contribute to the debate and reflection on the artist’s work; at the same time, they help reassess the value of the “Duchamp effect” on the art and culture of our times. The essays “The Blink of an Eye” and “Le Temps du Ready-made” by Rosalind Krauss and Thierry de Duve respectively, are published for the first time in Spanish.
In addition, the catalogue includes a comprehensive presentation of the artist’s life and work, along with an unpublished essay by Gonzalo Aguilar regarding Duchamp in Buenos Aires and another by Elena Filipovic –curator of the exhibition- that shed light on the curatorial aspects of the artist. Duchamp is present in his own words throughout the catalogue with his thoughts regarding his work and the letters he wrote during his stay in Buenos Aires.
This edition includes a significant body of images of Duchamp’s works, as well as photographs and documents that go far beyond illustrative purposes and enable a parallel reading with its own narrative.
