Centro Cultural Nómade (Nomad Cultural Center)
2011. Its story
On Saturday January 22, 2011, Fundación Proa launched the Centro Cultural Nómade (CCN), a project designed by the architects Gustavo Dieguez and Lucas Gilardi, creators of the A77 study.
Designed to build "educational points" in different areas of the city, and to articulate the relationship between institutions and the community, the Cetro Cultural Nómade operates in a container which, under the precepts of sustainability and resource, meets different urban situations and curricula.
Proa Foundation launched the proposal, approved by the Law of Patronage of the Government of the City, in the sidewalk of its headquarters in La Boca, where it worked until May.
In the second half of the year, CCN moved to the centro hipermediatico experimental Latinoamericano (cheLA) of Parque Patricios and was dedicated to new technologies. Some months later, at the Centro Metropolitano de Diseño (CMD) located in Barracas, activities related to the design were developed.
The experiences arising from each site formed a network of exchanges, capable of forging disciplinary redefinitions. Nomad is the center. Nomads and mutants were the disciplines that were tested in it.
CCN is a project of urban education, which aims to forge bonds of relationship with the community and find in it a learning scenario with active channels of participation, through experimentation, laboratories, workshops and other related actions.
CCN believes in art, design research, tested technology and welcomes the community, all of them key points that give shape to a contemporary bond.

A web for "Maman" in the farewell of Centro Cultural Nómade
05.14.2011
It hosted tourists, received visitors´ children, attracted the curious and was the meeting point for dozens of kids from the neighborhood, who activated their creativity every weekend creating characters of the unconscious, reinstalled goldfish in the Riachuelo and imagined monsters and spiders. Now, with an intervention over Maman, that promises to surround its huge figure with a web woven with wool, the Centro Cultural Nómade (CCN) bids farewell to its weekends in Proa.
Next Saturday May 14th from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm, attendees will be able to operate directly on Bourgeois' monumental spider, closing the free workshops that since January the educational container provides on the sidewalk of the Foundation. The sculpture of the artist, a prologue to the exhibition Louise Bourgeois: the return of the repressed, will be caught in its own web, which, with nearly 40.000 participants and countless street witnesses, she already layed on the Vuelta de Rocha.
Coordinated by the Department of Education of Proa, from the January 22nd the CCN grew in announcement and resonance. Its unique breakthrough generated interest in local and international news media. In March, organizers for Latin American tour of the colombian singer Shakira, invited the CCN to be part of Buenos Aires edition of the Pop Festival. During this event the container developed an activity oriented towards the thinking of new meanings of the "pop" attributes of certain objects, always on axis with the environmental awareness and recycling of work materials.
Designed by a77 studio of architects Gustavo Dieguez and Lucas Gilardi, and approved by the Law of Patronage of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, the project proposes to establish in various educational sites of the city, special pedagogical content, giving place to new ways of experiencing the relationship between art, design, community and public space. Conceived from the parameters of sustainability and resource use, CCN will run weekdays Workshop-Visits for schools, until late May.
Later, the container will be installed in the centro hipermediático experimental Latinoamericano (cheLA) in Parque Patricios, to work with technology and the community, and then in the Centro Metropolitano de Diseño (CMD) in Barracas.
Centro Cultural Nómade (Nomad Cultural Center) in 2011 edition of arteBA
04.29.2011
A space for the little ones, with the spirit of the Centro Cultural Nómade (Nomad Cultural Center, CCN), is the contribution of Proa to the contemporary art fair arteBA, with a leading institutional presence in the stand L97 in La Rural of Palermo.
Over the years, Proa called various artists to intervene this space destined to the Foundation, originally designed to operate as general Media Room: Sergio Avello, Alejandro Puente, Graciela Hasper, Marina De Caro and Marta Cali, each made singular the successive stands.
Retrieving this tradition, and projecting into the future, from this Wednesday until May 23rd, the Foundation summarizes the years of work and presents the exhibition The first glimpses of La Boca, a remarkable selection of photographs that go from the neighborhood´s images shoot by the first photographers who approached the area, from 1850 to 1945. On the other hand, a group of educators of the Centro Cultural Nómade, the educational container that runs from January up to the end of May at the door of the headquarters- will coordinate daily art activities for children, for free.
Autumn in Centro Cultural Nómade: A new schedule for free workshop
04.11.2011
Starting this weekend, free art workshops offered for all age groups in the Centro Cultural Nómade (Nomad Cultural Center, CCN) on the sidewalk of Proa change their schedule. From April 9th, on Saturdays and Sundays the educational container will open and display its unique furniture from 2 pm. up to 6 pm.
CCN opened last January coordinated by the Department of Education of Proa and designed by architect´s duo a77. Since the arrival of the exhibit Louise Bourgeois: the return of the repressed, CCN activities are interacting with the imagery of the artist: spiders, animals, multiple forms and diversity of textures and colors encourage the increasing participation of visitors, neighbors and tourists.
This weekend, under the slogan "Characters from the unconscious", the workshops will encourage the construction of cloth dolls, like the series of works by Louise Bourgeois that dominate the scene in Room 2, inside the exhibition. The weave as a concept and artistic material, and experimentation are the conceptual axes of the activity.
Built from the parameters of sustainability and resource use, CCN will remain a while longer on the esplanade of Proa. Then, it will start its roaming which leads, first, to cheLA (centro hipermediatico experimental Latinoamericano) in Parque Patricios and then to the CMD (Centro Metropolitano de diseño) in Barracas.
Centro Cultural Nómade and "pop tribe" cause sensation in the concert of Shakira
03.10.2011
Long lines to participate in a unexpected ritual: the act of production and consumption different than the one usually suggested by the pop culture. That is, for the organizers, the image that summarizes the participation of the Centro Cultural Nómade (Nomad Cultural Center, CCN) at Shakira´s concert on the Pop Festival on Saturday March 5th at Costanera Sur.
The educational container developed by the architects Gustavo Dieguez and Lucas Gilardi, from a77 studio, and installed on the sidewalk of Proa Foundation since January, was specially invited to participate on Buenos Aires version of the international tour that the Colombian singer is giving in 2011. With the aim of expanding the attractions and deepen the type of parallel activities typical of the mega music events, the CCN adapted its educational proposal and encouraged the thousands of attendees creating hats with waste materials. "With the assembly of the hats and everything that the participants put on their heads, we were slowly forming a kind of `pop tribe', united by creativity and the color of their hats," says Veronica Puleio, coordinator of the free workshops that are being developed all weekends at the CCN on the sidewalk of Proa.
As stated by one of the many anecdotes that Puleio remembers, in the heat of the shows, at times, the focus moved, "A group of girls was working and singing the songs of Emmanuel Horvilleur, until one of them realized, and said to her friends, 'Girls Emmanuel is already singing! ',' Yes, but I want to finish my hat,´ replied another." Many attendees threw away pieces of discarded materials that were used by the CCN educators for the Workshops. Because the cornerstone of the educational proposal of the CCN, a project approved by the Law of Patronage of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, is to work with the concepts of sustainability and optimization of resources in each educational site that becomes a part of its nomadism. In the Pop Festival, the hats were produced with discards from the same event, in an exercise of permanent recycling.
The activities that will continue to be organized by the CCN in Proa will be of the same nature so far: efforts focused on urban pedagogy, learning from the city and for the city, recycling and holding the gaze both towards the immediate environment as well as for possible worlds. This year, in addition, the CCN will settle in the Centro Metropolitano de Diseño (CMD) in Barracas, and cheLA (Centro hipermediatico experimental Latinoamericano) in Parque Patricios. On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th, the CCN will take up again the hats that motivated the creations at the recital, but this time at the sidewalk of Proa, in continuity with the slogan "pop" at Shakira's event, but adapting the excercise to the neighborhood of La Boca: thus, the educators will help to build objects that fuse pop and murga.
With the imminent opening of the exhibition Louise Bourgeois: the return of the repressed, on March 19th, animals will be exclusive protagonists of the activities, always inspired and protected by the giant spider Maman, with which the CCN will share the public space on the sidewalk of Proa.
Impact of Centro Cultural Nómade: an increasingly large container
02.10.2011
Since late January Proa installed on its sidewalk the Centro Cultural Nomade (Nomad Cultural Center), designed by the architect duo a77, the educational container invites more and more participants and captures the attention of local and international media. Children, teenagers, adults, neighbors, curious and specialists participate in the project, approved by the Law of Patronage of the City. The CCN is certainly growing on slogans on artistic work, community outreach and educational activities.
Representations on the environment, images of the city and children´s rights through drawings, collages, three-dimensional objects, signs and optical toys: workshops organized by the Department of Education of Proa each weekend reach a level of interaction that is at the very base of the container design.
In a special note, the prestigious website on sustainability TreeHugger, Discovery Communications, stressed the uniqueness of the project, resource use and its location. TreeHugger in 2009 entered the ranking of the 25 major Internet sites developed by Time magazine.
The supplement Clarin Architecture, for its part, dedicated to the CCN a note that highlights the social inclusion one of the main aims of the initiative and reviewed its multiple functions: as a library, art gallery, theater and school. The article recounts the journey that will take the container once it leaves Proa, to land at the Centro hipermediático experimental Latinoamericano (cheLA), in Parque Patricios, and later at the Centro Metropolitano de Diseño (CMD) in Barracas.
When, on March 19th, Fundación Proa opens the exhibition Louise Bourgeois: the return of the repressed, a comprehensive course on the outstanding work of the Franco-American artist, and install on the esplanade the iconic giant spider Maman, of 1999, the CCN will adapt its program of activities. Surrounded by the monumental sculpture, attendees will have the posibility to create objects and build images, with the richness and uniqueness of the universe of Louise Bourgeois and its inspirational force.
Birds and fish. Fathers and Sons on the launching of Centro Cultural Nómade
24.01.2011
Birds and fish that inhabit the surroundings of La Boca are birds and fish that are almost not there anymore. Or that are already gone. With a slogan that appealed to imagine them back, and made fantasized on returning them back, Fundación Proa opened on Saturday 22nd the first art classes at the Centro Cultural Nómade (Nomad Cultural Center, CCN), the project designed by the architects Gustavo Dieguez and Lucas Gilardi, creators of the a77 studio.
During the first weekend of operation, the CCN brought together children and adults who adapted the size of the banks and stipulated the height of the stands (the furniture designed by a77 allows these and other adaptations). Then they produced art pieces that remained hanged on the side of the sidewalk of Proa. The crowd attending the openings scheduled by the Foundation for Saturday encountered, as well, with drawings and objects that, in line with the sunset, organized their own ecosystem.
