Lives and works in Hong Kong.
The History of Riot (The DJ) -2013- is a component in Lee’s ongoing research project Archive of the People. Reacting to the lack of governance over public records and the continuous destruction of such materials, Lee’s research project acts as a framework for him to look at historical and contemporary socio-political issues whether through performances, documentation and installation. In the case of The History of Riot (The DJ), Lee refers to the 1967 leftist riots in pre-handover Hong Kong. Amidst the riots, Lee highlights a key event - the brutal assassination of radio commentator Lam Bun (1929 – 1967) by pro-communist protestors, which came to symbolize the spilt in ideologies and identities of the territory that still resonates in present day Hong Kong. Lee’s video is a tribute to Lam who now is known as a figure for the freedom of speech.
